Liberals Appoint New Senators Hours Before Pot Vote

Just hours before a critical vote is set to take place on the legalization of recreational marijuana in Canada, the governor general has appointed two new independent senators in the House of Commons.

The announcement was confirmed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office early on Wednesday afternoon.

Both Senators were sworn in and took their seats in the Senate chamber hours before a key vote on the cannabis act (Bill C-45) is set to take place Thursday between 1:30 p.m. and midnight.
